The condition of our hair is strongly linked to our diet, any illnesses we may have, and the state of our mental health.

What Do Graying Hairs Say?
If your hair is graying suddenly, this may indicate significant stress exposure and, often alongside it, insomnia. Poor sleep quality and insufficient rest negatively impact both the hair and overall body condition.

Kidney dysfunction can also manifest as graying hair. It’s a good idea to recommend that clients discuss this with their general practitioner.

How to Prevent Graying? Vitamins such as B12, biotin, folic acid, vitamins D and E, as well as zinc, iron, copper, and calcium, can help slow the process.

What Do Falling Hairs Say?
If hair is shedding excessively and it’s clear this isn’t normal (we lose about 100 hairs daily), it’s a warning sign that something serious may be happening in the body. It could be related to hormonal imbalances, hyper- or hypothyroidism, anemia, or iron deficiency.

If you notice alarming symptoms in a client or they mention them, advise them to see a specialist and get a blood test.

What Do Dull Hairs Say?
Lackluster hair may indicate a deficiency in unsaturated fats! These are found in products like olive oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, sesame seeds, hazelnuts, peanuts, almonds, pistachios, avocado, and seeds.

Consider omega-3-rich fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring, and halibut. Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated ones can positively impact overall health – from skin, hair, and nails to mental well-being. Paying attention to what you eat is crucial.

Also, don’t forget that hair acts like a litmus test for a client’s addictions. Smoking, drug use, and alcohol will eventually take a toll on hair appearance and overall health.
