How to Calculate the Price of Any Hair Treatment in a Hair Salon?
With increasing operational costs, accurately calculating the service price is key to profitability in your hair salon. Whether you're offering Nanoplastia, keratin straightening, hair botox, or hair coloring, having a precise method helps ensure you're not working for free or below cost.
1. Salon Operating Costs – Hourly Breakdown
Start by listing all your monthly fixed costs:
-
rent
-
utilities (electricity, water, heating)
-
coffee, tea, water for clients
-
cleaning
-
staff salaries (if applicable)
-
insurance
-
equipment leasing, etc.
Let’s say your monthly salon expenses total €3000. Divide this by the number of working days, e.g., 24 days/month: 3000 / 24 = €125 per day. Assuming 8 working hours per day: 125 / 8 = €15.63 per hour.
2. Product Cost – Calculated per 100 g
Suppose you purchase a hair straightening product (e.g. Nanoplastia) in a 1000 g bottle for €150. The cost per 100 g is: 150 / 10 = €15.
Note: Even if you only use 30 g from a new batch, count it as 100 g because the portion was opened. You need a precise salon scale to measure this.
3. Hairdresser's Labor Time
You also need to include your own labor. If your hourly rate is €50 and the treatment takes 3 hours:
3 x 50 = €150 (labor cost)
4. Full Cost Breakdown – Example with Nanoplastia or Keratin Treatment
-
Treatment duration: 3 hours
-
Product usage: 140 g (we count 200 g as two 100 g portions were opened)
-
Salon hourly cost: €15
-
Product cost per 100 g: €15
-
Labor cost: €50/hour
Calculation:
-
Salon overhead: 3 x 15 = €45
-
Product: 2 x 15 = €30
-
Labor: 3 x 50 = €150
TOTAL COST: €225 (base price)
5. Profit Margin, Taxes, and Final Price
Add to your base cost:
-
Profit margin (e.g. 20%): 225 x 0.2 = €45
-
VAT (if not included already)
Final client price: 225 + 45 = €270 (gross or net, depending on your pricing system)
Summary
To work professionally and profitably, you need to:
-
calculate the cost of every 100 g of product (rounding up if opened)
-
calculate your hourly salon expenses (rent, supplies, services)
-
add your labor time at your hourly rate
-
include a margin for profit and unforeseen expenses
This simple yet effective method gives you full control over your salon’s finances.
